The Urban Farmyard at Los Cerritos Elementary School
[Article by Susan Gisin]

Let your mind wander back to the days when you were in elementary school. What was the highlight of your day? Some would say recess and others lunch. Few would volunteer being glued to a desk, learning basics such are reading, writing and arithmetic.
But what if you had the opportunity to have a class in an outdoor paradise - your own special place to be creative and learn by touching, hearing, tasting, seeing and smelling nature - not just reading other people’s interpretation of what the real world was supposed to be like? Well, such a place exists for the students of Los Cerritos elementary school.
To learn more about how this enchanting urban farmyard is helping youngsters learn the basic principles of Responsible Organics, read the entire article in the May/June issue of Touch the Soil magazine.
